Fraser River 04:16
Oh the Fraser River starts high in the Rockies And the Fraser River rolls down to the sea And the Mighty Fraser never takes no for an answer No, the Fraser River is not like me High in the hills the river runs clear and cold, love It tumbles right over the falls without a care And the mighty river never lies awake wondering And it doesn't give a damn who's not there Chorus Someday, someday, someday, someday I'm gonna be The Fraser River Oh the Fraser River The Fraser River sparkles in the sunshine But when the storms roll in, it tears its banks away And the mighty river never ever keeps promises Whatever the rules, it's not gonna play The Fraser River runs wild through the canyon Bumping and grinding, but it's just passing through Passion spent, it eases into the ocean and disappears Oh the Fraser River is just like you Chorus Oh the Fraser River (x4)

Winnipeg 04:38
"Why would you ever want to go to Winnipeg?" she said "There's nothing there for me but family Last time I went home they lost my luggage It took them 10 days to get it back to me" And he said, "I just can't wait to get to Winnipeg" She said, "Why John, tell me what do you mean?" And he said, "I can't explain, it's just the feeling there Plus they've got the best music on the scene" And I wonder… Chorus Why do sunflowers follow the light? Why are the darkest paintings all of war? Why are the best songs born of heartache? Shouldn't they be about something in this life that's worth living for? Why in the world would I want to go to Winnipeg? I lost my favourite lover there Well he was just, walking down the street when he saw her face Framed in the crystals of her breath on the winter air Well damn that winter air! Chorus I can think of a thousand reasons why to go to Winnipeg It's hard to convince you if you've never been There's just something about the feeling there Plus they've got some of the best music on the scene And I wonder... Chorus Shouldn't they be about…something more Shouldn’t they be about, shouldn’t they be about something more Than…all the reasons why to not go to Winnipeg?

Love is like a battleground Bullets fired without a sound The loser crushed, the winner crowned She told me Listen up! Win or lose Drop the gun or light the fuse It's up to you, you've got to choose Just trust me Chorus Love is not a game for the faint of heart But tonight's the perfect time to make a start Love is like a bucking horse Rearing up and changing course Hold on tight but don't keep score She told me And if you're thrown into the dirt Get up quick, brush off your shirt Pretend that it...never hurt Just trust me Chorus Love is the moon, this December night And love is the warmth of your hand in mine Love is the fear of your heart undone And love is the taste of your name on my tongue Love can bring us down Or make the world go round Love is like a marathon Your eyes are blurred, your legs are gone The scenery goes on and on She told me If you want to reach the end You can't break, you gotta bend But never doubt that love's your friend Just trust me Chorus x2

The Mountain 04:39
My legs are getting shaky, standing on this ledge And my fingers are startin' to bleed holding on to the edge Climbing up this mountain is harder than it looks She said "you can't learn to love forever reading self-help books" So I put the boots to caution at the age of 25 Thought it's better to have risked the fall than never to have tried Climbing up this mountain is harder than it seems She said "learning how to love forever takes more than hopes and dreams" And I'm feeling nervous, worried I might fall Chorus She said "You'll be just fine" (x3) I said "Darling long as you are mine" I said "Darling long as you are mine, yeah" I’ve been climbing hard and sweatin' a lot, I’ve been focused straight ahead Not paying enough attention to all the things she said And I swear that this old mountain is much steeper than I'd heard She said "if you're going to reach the top, you'd better focus on my words" And I'm feeling nervous, worried I might fall Chorus I’ve been dodging rocks and holding tight and learning too damn slow I’ve been skipping through the sunshine and stumbling through the snow But climbing up this mountain, the best choice I could have made Despite the bruises and long hard falls, it's worth twice the price I paid Oh but I'm still nervous, worried I might fall Chorus I said "Darling long as you are mine, yeah"

I only drink when I'm sitting at home And I'm lonely and thinking of you Thoughts fill my head and I can't go to bed And the bottle says, "Have one or two." Part way through one I start talking to you And I tell you of all that I need Part way through two you start talking to me And the bottle says, "Maybe have three." Well I'm suddenly stable, I feel more secure As this drug fills up my veins I tell you that sometimes life stings me so hard I just need to kill all the pain So I drink and I pick and I sing you my songs ‘Til the words are coherent no more Then if there are tears, and sometimes if there aren't The bottle says, "Honey, have four." My fingers will fumble, my vision will blur, And my legs are unable to walk So we sit on our asses and top up our glasses And talk just to drown out the clock. Somewhere near morning I stumble to bed And whisper, "Goodnight," in your ear I'll dream of you if I'm lucky, I guess And I feel I have nothing to fear The next day my words will resound in my head And I can't help but feel so ashamed Yet I know that this evening I'll be home alone And it'll probably happen again Cause I only drink when I'm sitting at home And I'm lonely and thinking of you Thoughts fill my head and I can't go to bed And the bottle says, “Have one or two.”

Complicated 04:29
Billy the accountant likes to wear skirts He's one of the boys, he's one of the girls A strapless gown or a pinstripe suit Bright red pumps or Oxford shoes Well it's complicated / Well it's complicated / Oh it's complicated Billy likes to cheer for his football team And Billy can sew a really flat seam Billy likes beer and Billy likes wine And Margaritas some of the time Well it's complicated / Well it's complicated / Oh it's complicated Billy's got a sister with two little kids Nobody loved Billy like those two did But Billy can't come around anymore She doesn't want a bad example at her door Well it's complicated / Well it's complicated / Well it's complicated And Billy says you should be aware No matter how he dresses or does his hair There's a man staggering under the weight of your stare Hearing jokes you thought he couldn't hear Well it's complicated / Oh it's complicated / Yeah it's complicated Billy's Dad's a cop, he's proud of his son But tells Billy not to smile at everyone Billy's no dope, but still he smiles Has to run real fast every once in a while Well it's complicated / Well it's complicated / Oh it's complicated On Saturdays, he likes to go to a show But he watches his step cause you never know Sometimes he's beat up, sometimes he's beat down But I've never seen Billy stand his ground If I was Billy I'd put up a fight But Billy says two wrongs never make a right But anyway, between you and me I say Billy's got the goddamned right to be free It's not complicated (x4) What's so complicated? (x4)

about

Heard Immunity is the debut EP of Calgary and Victoria, Canada based Patchwork Yak, consisting of six original songs that are related only in that we enjoy playing them. The songs range from the dark and delicate folk of Drinking Song to the roaring folk rock electric guitar ending of Complicated, with healthy doses of Americana in between. And smart lyrics, because life is too short to listen to bad lyrics.See more content, including videos, at patchworkyak.com.
